Cricut Lightning Bolt Disco Place Names
Add some funky place names to your table settings to set the epic alternative vibe! Hate your handwriting? This tutorial uses the Cricut 'write' feature too!
Full Video Tutorial
Hey there epic Nearlyweds!
We absolutely love adding a bit of disco to weddings so if you're looking for a showstopping place name idea that is cheap and cheerful as well as super easy to make, then you've come to the right place!
Using my Cricut Explore 3 is my favourite way to personalise and DIY almost anything for your big day so I created these epic two tone lightning bolt place names. To add a bit of disco and something that guests can keep afterwards, I also attached these adorable mini disco ball keyrings.
If you're like me and your handwriting never looks consistent, this project also uses the writing option on the Cricut as well so you don't have to worry about writing each one by hand. Of course if you'd rather do that by hand, then you can just delete the writing in the template.
I go through each step of how to make these in the video above but I've also listed the steps below as well for you.
Throughout the tutorial and at the end, you will find all the links to the products used. By following these links you'll pay the same prices as usual but I'll get a little something for recommending you so thank you in advance!
So are you ready to rock n roll? Let's go!
You will need...
Pliers
Step 1
Create your design files on Cricut Design using the downloadable template below. Double click on the names and add in the names you need. An A4 sheet holds about 4 of these so it's best to do it in groups of 4, but of course if you're a Cricut Design space pro, you can create as many as you need by duplicating each lightning bolt and your Cricut software will automatically sort it into separate mats.
Click 'Make.'
Remember though that your A4 card isn't as wide as your Cricut mat so make sure you arrange all the lightning bolts on the mat to fit onto the sheet of card before you start cutting.
Of course if you would like to make the lightning bolts smaller, feel free to resize them! You can then make more on one piece of card as well if you're happy for them to be smaller.
Step 2
Stick your Black A4 card sheet onto the Light Grip cutting mat.
Set your material in Cricut Design Space as Medium Cardstock.
Load the mat into your Cricut Machine and click go.
Remove your mat when done and weed your lightning bolts. Put them to one side.
Step 3
Stick your Neon A4 card sheet onto the Light Grip cutting mat.
Load slot A on your Cricut with your black marker pen.
Set your material in Cricut Design Space as Medium Cardstock.
Load the mat into your Cricut Machine and click go.
Remove your mat when done and weed your lightning bolts. Put them to one side.
Step 4
Using your glue tape pen, glue the neon lightning bolts to the black lightning bolts in the same design as on the Cricut Design Space template. The black lightning bolt should look like a shadow to give it a more 3D effect.
Step 5
Take your single hole punch and punch a hole in the top of each place name.
Step 6
Take the single chain link included in your keyring chains set and loop it through the hole in the place name.
Keep hold of the place name and chain link and loop onto the chain link a mini disco ball.
On the other edge of the chain link opening link the end of the keyring chain.
Using pliers close the chain link shut so that everything is connected and there is no gap.
And there you have it! Fun, fabulous and unique disco ball place names ready to adorn your wedding tables!
I told you it was easy!
We'd love to see your creations in action so please tag us at @the.wedding.coven so that we can see!
